Wildberries says MIR becomes most popular pay system in purchases
MOSCOW, Aug 23 (PRIME) – Online retailer Wildberries’ customers switched to MIR and SberPay within a week after the retailer introduced discounts on the payments – MIR has been leading the transactions by volume since August 20, and the volume of deals via Sber’s SberPay has increased by 400%, the seller said on Monday in a statement.
“According to Wildberries’ expectations, SberPay can soon become one of the favourites of Russians when choosing the means of payment and get the second place after the MIR system on Wildberries. The third place can be taken by the the Faster Payments System (FPS), whose popularity is increasing actively,” the seller said.
Wildberries said on August 17 it will charge less for the goods if paid for via MIR, FPS, and SberPay, which will help the people to save about 40 million rubles annually, and the move provoked a wave of criticism from international payment systems Visa and Mastercard.
“As we’ve already repeatedly underlined, introduction of the discounts does not violate either the Russian law nor the rules of the international payment systems …The number of orders on Wildberries also jumped: by 171% on the year from August 16 till August 22,” the seller said.
